New Years Resolutions and Project Goals

This past month, while I intended to post frequently during my Maternity Leave, turned out to be quite the uh, lets say “adventure”?  I had my sweet baby boy on November 20th, a dream labor, delivery, everything.  A week later I was back at the hospital hemorrhaging – after that scary stint I was for sure I was done with the whole hospital stay…only to land BACK at the hospital again at the end of December because my appendix called it quits.  So, I’ve been busy recovering, rather constantly, for the past few weeks…but since I am still not allowed to lift over 10 lbs and am supposed to find time to rest frequently, I decided to take a few minutes to finally post something to my dear little neglected blog.

I know everyone is posting about their New Year Resolutions – so I figured I’d share some of mine:

1.) “Bite” My Nail Biting Habit – I have a little boy who will be looking up to me as an example, and this disgusting habit, and embarassing one I might add, is not one I would relish sharing with Miles. So this is a top priority.

2.) Blog at least once a week.  I really would like to post more, but I need to start small and I know I can handle 52 blog posts a year – lets hope that being a new mommy, working part-time, and trying to jump start my etsy shop won’t hinder this too much.

3.) Make my relationship with the Lord the priority it should be.  Since graduating from college I’ve let my relationship with the Lord take the back burner, and clearly this just doesn’t work well, and Matt and I both are going to read through the Bible entirely this year so here’s to a little extra accountability.

4.) Organize and Clean out each room and closet so that it is maintainable.  Hopefully I will post room/closet by room/closet, and show how I’m doing it, and this time next year we can discuss its success or failure?

5.)  Landscape the yard, put in a brick path from the sidwalk to the back yard, add some flower beds around the trees and add a permanent perimeter around the current beds so they are easier to maintain aesthetically.

6.) Build a window seat with storage for the living room window and for the office window, perhaps for Miles room too.

7.) Build two leaning ladder bookcases

8.) Use our receipt system and budget

9.) Make/DIY artwork for above the couches and above the sideboard

10.) Take pictures of Miles every month

11.) Lose 15-20 lbs (depends on how much I weigh now, which I’m too reluctant to find out yet, but I’m pretty sure they will make me at my 6 week OB appointment this week – UGH)

12.) Run at least a half marathon – not sure if I can train for a Marathon this year, maybe next year.

Be nice….but don’t have to do:

13.) Build office furniture so Matt and I can both work in the office at the same time

14.) Build  a new bed and fix bedroom armoire

15.) Paint the kitchen cupboards

16.) Install new countertop

17.) Paint and/or replace the fridge

18.) Start a blog about how to “buy” nice presents for next to nothing….any interest and I might try?

I think that’s good for now 😉

Here’s to a new year with lots of “little” projects!

Weekend Forecast: 1/23/10-1/24/10

So there won’t be any ginormous projects going on this weekend…but there are a lot of things I would like to get done, seeing as I start my NEW JOB on February 1st.  Yes siree….I feel SO blessed to have found a job in 6 weeks.  God is good.  I will be a marketing assistant and Graphic Designer.  Can’t wait to start.  In the meantime I get a little over a week to work on the house (guiltfree might I add) and finish up some projects.  Here’s a look at what I would like to get done this weekend:

1 ) Finish living room throw.

2 ) Spray paint goodwill find (a giant leaf for the coffee table…its not as hideous as it sounds, promise.)

3 ) Make liners for two baskets above my wine rack.

4 ) Find a 24 x 36 inch mirror/frame that is CHEAP.  I need it for the bathroom and by gosh by golly I’ve been looking in every thrift store, second hand shop, goodwill, habitat homestore, hobby lobby sales….and I still can’t find one that will work.  I’m determined that I WILL find one this weekend.

5 ) Fill the empty frames in my house

6 ) Hang bathroom mirror (in the master…I’ve had it for 7 months…and yes, its been leaning on the wall in the master for that many months waiting for me to hang it in the bathroom…..I really do need someone to light a fire under me!)

7 ) Sew two pillows

8 ) Update wardrobe (up to J.Crew clearance center we will go….he insists on getting their shoes? I’ve not been overly impressed with their “longevity” and I used to work there as a sales associate…I love their stuff, especially at the prices at the clearance center….but no, it does not last as long as the price should make them last…)

9 ) Finish painting, and hanging two shelves for the master bath…again, like the mirror, I’ve had them for 7 months.  Folks…I’m pathetic.  I can start projects like these and get 95% of the way done…I’m not sure why that last 5% is always so hard, but let me tell you it is.  I’ve been told I need to hire someone to finish off all the 5%’s I’ve left…I’m really not that bad.  Just when it comes to these types of projects.

10 ) Buy more heirloom white spray paint to paint another shelving piece that looks gross…but really is just worn out.

11 ) Hang clock in Master bedroom

12 )Work on office filing situation

13 ) Organize Tax info (gag….I HATE taxes…like I’m so paranoid I’m going to mess something up every year.  I know they aren’t as bad as I think, but I just don’t ever want to make a mistake…I’m not avoiding it this year though, I’m making myself get it done and over with so I can enjoy what tax refund I get this year….ha, its going to be itty bitty if I do get one!)

14 ) Finish an organization project that has been in the works

15 ) Finally….since lets be honest we KNOW all of this will not get done this weekend…but what to do with these:

Sorry if the wallpaper scars you for life...I cannot wait to rid the kitchen of that, and the white countertops and polyurethaned cabinets....

I know…random…but Matt and I have been on a “clementine binge” of sorts.  He’s even had 4 in one day.  Apparently he is vitamin c deficient.  But I have 4 of these (yes….80 clementines in 21 days….do the math). Any suggestions as to what to do with them? I’ve been thinking about shaving off the protruding corners and make the entire top of the wooden box level/clean.  I think I would paint them too.  I’ve been thinking about making into some type of organizers in the laundry, or maybe in the office if I painted them black and used them as paper, receipt storage?  Your thoughts are welcome!  Happy Friday 🙂

Weekend Recap: Phew!

So I would like to start this post with an apology.  My stinky unreliable camera died again this weekend.  I need to go get more batteries, I swear the thing is on a massive AA battery binge….they last a week! So that’s the reason why no further posts were up- but that only means that this week will be crammed full – I promise I will buy batteries, TODAY! 🙂

I bet you all are wondering how I did on my list?  I actually made progress.  Not as much as I would like, but lets just say I have a dinning room again – I’m so happy to have it all cleaned up!  Here’s how I did this weekend:

1) Bloom Super Double Coupons (WHOOHOO!) Had fun with this, spent $13, but got about $50 worth of groceries!

2) Quarter Round (husband promised by Christmas Eve it will be DONE!)

3) Work on Repurpose of our old entertainment center Progress made!  It did not fit in the closet in whole form, so lets just say I dismantled the thing and started putting parts of it back in the closet.  Almost finished with it, so hopefully I will have pictures to post this week.  I also pulled aside a few pieces for a new project down the road! That project will have to be “put to bed” for the time being hint hint.

4) Hang Ikea Shelves Whoohooo! They are finally up, and I LOVE LOVE LOVE them! (And my dear husband who did most of the hanging!!) I have some things on them, I think I may have too much, but hopefully pictures this week in a post!)

5)Plant Daffodil bulbs ( I know I’m behind!)

6.) Fill our picture frames (Not even kidding, I have like 10-12 frames that are hung, or displayed with no pictures) I filled 5, can that count?

7.) Deep Clean & Organize at least two roomsMy dining room and guest bath are almost completely back to normal!

8.) Finish painting Bathroom Vanity

9) Finish painting Bathroom trim.

10) Pick up Matt’s Christmas gift supplies! (Can’t wait to show you!)

11) Pick up supplies to frame bathroom mirror

12) Spray paint bathroom light fixture. So I definitely did this, only I discovered that I did NOT like heirloom white for this project.  I definitely need  to stick with the crisp white in the rest of the room – it looked dingy next to everything else.  So I’m afraid I’m going to have to redo this one!  I did get a few other things spray painted too though – so I won’t count this a total loss:)

I also stopped by Garden Ridge to finish off my entry way table (bought one more basket); Goodwill where I picked up some goodies (watch for post); I made peppermint bark, and finished up Christmas decorations.

Oh and I finished my second Half Marathon too!  I did not beat my personal best, but considering it is the most hilly course I have run in my entire life I was happy with the time I had, about 6 minutes over my last half – I also had to tie my shoelaces two times, had a side stitch that lasted for 1.5 miles, and my knee started acting up (thank you hills) – so all hindrances aside – I’m happy with the result.  Not sure if I would ever do that half again – I might just stick with the beach ones I usually do.  Still it was fun, and Matt was super sweet to drive me up to Charlotte at 5 in the morning.

We celebrated the day with a trip to City Range – a local steakhouse, thanks to a gift certificate someone gave me for doing freelance work.  We enjoyed the treat very much and finished the night off going to see “The Blind Side”.  Highly recommend it – one of the best movies I’ve seen in years, and probably my favorite Sandra Bullock movie, hands down.

So that was my weekend – hope you all had a great one!
